Namolokama Canoe club is pleased to offer a recreational paddling program. This program is for those who want to learn the camaraderie of the canoe but don’t want the intensity of the competition program; for those who want more practice then the team practices and for those who want to learn a new seat. It is also a good way to find out if you really would enjoy outrigger canoe paddling before making a commitment to it.
Recreational paddling runs year around with twice a week paddles during the competition season from February through early October and three times a week during the off season.

You must join the club to paddle regularly, meaning more than three times in a year. We are also requesting a $20 donation for guests due to increased maintenance costs of our canoes. If you subsequently join the club, the amount paid for guest paddling in that year will be credited toward your dues.

All paddlers must sign a waiver of responsibility before paddling.

What can you expect from recreational paddling? If you are a new paddler you can get help with your stroke. If you are trying to learn a new seat such a steering, you can get experience in a low key environment. If you are looking for a good workout you can get that too.

During recreational paddling you also get a chance to look around at your environment a bit and to see the bay from a unique angle, the view from water level. If you have a water resistant camera it is a good time to bring it because if paddling in the bay you will likely find ocean life like dolphins, whales or Honu.

If there are sufficient experienced paddlers, good weather and sufficient room, we are pleased to take guests on Sundays. You must be able to swim in open ocean and sign a waiver before paddling.

If this sounds interesting to you, please join us. For information on times see the home page or club calendar or contact Dick Smith at 826-7585
